This April, STATE Gallery + Studios is proud to present Facade: New Works by Maggie Sanger. The exhibition will open with a public reception on April 9th from 6pm - 10pm, and run through May 20th. Facade marks the fifth exhibition from the STATE Gallery + Studios Scholarship Recipients of 2021/2022, and the second collaboration from Maggie and The Fort Houston Artisan Support Project (501c3). 

In her latest body of work, Maggie explores new thematic unification in her signature aesthetic. Clean, boldly defined abstract shapes converge and coalesce across each work, every piece a testament to her deft skill and meticulous technique. The depicted environments cleverly engage the viewer in depth deception; these forays into op-art seem to clarify a distinction between what is stark and what is simple. 

Melding her natural affinity for architecture with personal recollections, each piece in Facade  represents an actual location in which Maggie has worked or resided - reimagined through the lens of orderly abstractions. Created from physical blueprints and her own memories of each of the locations represented, the collection is at once methodical and emotional, tangible and elusive.
