Basket Weaving - All Levels
Basket weaving for all levels. Appropriate for beginning weavers.
This class would make an awesome Mother’s Day gift experience!
Basket weaving has a long global history and weavers find great satisfaction in transforming natural fibers into useful and decorative baskets.
The basket we will create is colorful, functional and just right for the upcoming season of sunflowers in the garden!
Over the course of a fun and relaxing afternoon, you’ll be taught all the skills needed to create the basket.
The basket materials will be prepared and ready to weave.
All tools needed will be available for use in class.
Basket description: 3 1/2” H 13” L 8 1/2” W (not including the handle)
Woven with natural and dyed reed in the colors: chocolate brown; celery green; and gold.
In this workshop you will learn:
basic weaving techniques
weaving terminology
how to weave a base
how to weave in a handle
how to weave the sides paying attention to shape
twining
start and stop weaving
the use of overlays
rimming the woven basket
staining and preserving techniques
This basket will work well as a catch all basket, or to carry treats to a gathering.
Come and experience this important and useful cultural practice.
Instructor:
Bonnie Stefko-Brown has been weaving baskets for over 30 years. She attends the annual Association of Michigan Basket Makers Convention and is a member of a basket guild where she enjoys learning new weaving techniques and exploring new weaving ideas. Being retired from public school teaching, she cherishes spending time with family in Nashville, Houston and Michigan.
